KWAHERI TO ALI AND JAMBO TO MARK!

After eight years of amazing work, Ali Allport has left The Safari Collection to pursue new adventures.

Ali first joined us with her husband Tony (and daughter Savanna) as the very first managers of Sasaab in 2007.

Ali’s passion for the Samburu community and wildlife conservation at Sasaab was there from the start and she was heavily involved in the lodge, becoming one of the first gold eco-rated properties in Kenya in 2012. It is hard to overstate her passion and contributions to the Samburu community: during her time she ran eye missions, dental missions, instigated a school food programme, brought in donors to sponsor secondary school students and has been instrumental in the creation of SAFE Samburu.

After leaving Sasaab in 2012, Ali became The Safari Collection’s very first Community and Conservation Manager and brought projects to our Masai Mara lodge Sala’s Camp, Solio, our luxury lodge in Kenya‘s Laikipia and Giraffe Manor as well as developing our links with conservation partners such as The Mara Cheetah Project and the Grevy’s Zebra Trust. Thank you Ali for all of your hard and dedicated work for The Safari Collection.

“The memories of those special years in Samburu are so many and so varied, from the expansive view over the Ewaso Nyiro often filled with elephants, to watching the sunset on sundowner rock without seeing a sign of humanity anywhere, to incredible friendships – always to be treasured and never to be forgotten”

Taking over from Ali Allport will be Mark Boyd who will be familiar to many of you as the manager at Sala’s Camp in the Masai Mara. Mark has previously worked with Ali on a number of The Safari Collection’s projects and brings a passion for combining wildlife tourism in a community context.

He is a strong believer that the future of wildlife worldwide will depend on our ability to coexist alongside it. This month, Mark has been at Solio and Sasaab running a dental and health clinic and is very excited to be taking over as the Community and Conservation Manager.

Mark is currently organizing an eye mission for early 2016 and is looking for donors to support this. Please contact him using sustainability@thesafaricollection.com if you would like to know more. Click here to read more about our various community and conservation projects.
