Meet the resident Rothschild’s giraffes

STAY AT Giraffe Manor

GETTING THERE On arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by your private guide and transferred to Giraffe Manor.

EXPERIENCE Whatever time you arrive there will be a warm friendly welcome. The house is old, quirky and full of history and the excellent team will do everything they can to ensure your stay is exceptional. But best of all are its resident rare Rothschild’s giraffe that roam the grounds of the sanctuary. If you’re lucky you may well get a kiss from one of these long-necked beauties.

PLEASE NOTE: The giraffe at Giraffe Manor are wild and therefore we cannot guarantee interaction with them at any given time.

DAY 2

STAY AT Solio Lodge

GETTING THERE After a full breakfast at the Manor you will be taken by road to Wilson Airport to catch your scheduled flight to Nanyuki. At Nanyuki airstrip a Solio vehicle will be awaiting your arrival.

EXPERIENCE Solio Lodge is sandwiched between the rolling green Aberdares and Mount Kenya. Its high altitude and position between these two dramatic mountainous regions means that it has a perfect climate of cool nights and warm days. The wildlife is easy to view, with large numbers of all plains game, rhino and lion. Game drives are leisurely in this sanctuary, which was Kenya’s first private wildlife reserve. DAY 3 and 4

STAY AT The Turkana Basin Institute near Lake Turkana

GETTING THERE At about 0630 your helicopter will land just in front of the lodge – a short stroll across the lawn and you’ll be taking off for your morning adventure which might include a stop in the Suguta Valley and Lothgam. Lothgam is the first of the fossil sites you’ll visit.

EXPERIENCE The Turkana Basin Institute is a research and educational facility. It is not a luxury lodge, but it gives access to a place that tourists have never been able to visit before. The next few days will be divided with time in the cool of the labs during the heat of the day and time out and about around the area. A visit to central island will give a unique insight to ancient fishing practices and walks to the nearby villages will also allow for an opportunity to meet the Turkana people. You will also learn about everything from dinosaurs to our ancient ancestors.

DAY 5

A heavenly oasis to relax and enjoy

STAY AT Sasaab

GETTING THERE From Turkana it will be time to head south again in your helicopter. After breakfast begin the 2 hour flight to Kenya’s Northern Frontier District of Samburu.

EXPERIENCE After some time in basic accommodation it will be a lovely change to arrive into this heavenly oasis. Use the next 24 hours to either relax and absorb all the things you have just learnt, or enjoy a quad bike ride, a walk with camels, a game drive, a massage in the award winning bush spa.

DAY 6

Ease out of Kenya at The Retreat

After breakfast at Sasaab, your luxury tented camp in Samburu, catch a flight from Sasaab Airstrip to Nairobi Wilson Airport. We’ll be there to meet you and transfer you to The Retreat at Giraffe Manor for some pre-departure relaxation.
