SIRUAI EXPEDITION CAMP

Siruai is a delightfully authentic mobile safari camp situated in a 43,000 acre privately owned ranch in central Kenya. Perched on a rocky ridge line, the camp overlooks the Ewaso Narok River valley and out over the Laikipia Plateau with views of Mount Kenya beyond. ‘Siruai’ means ‘eland’ in Maa – the world’s largest antelope. These shy herbivores are one of the many beautiful animals you can spot around the camp – look out for their striking long black twisted horns and the distinctive white stripes on their back. Most definitely off the beaten safari track, Siruai Expedition Camp immerses you in a lesser known, wild pocket of Kenya and is perfect for exploring the incredible scenery of northwest Laikipia.

ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES

Sleeping under the stars in luxury canvas tents, Siruai guests are treated to a classic, authentic safari experience, reminiscent of a bygone era. The mess tent sits at the top of a ridge overlooking a salt lick and waterhole below, where elephant and Grevy’s zebra are regular visitors. Hidden from view, the tents are scattered below amongst big granite boulders and fig trees, with spectacular views from each of their private verandas. With cosy beds, en-suite flushing lavatories and traditional safari bucket showers, guests can relax in the height of comfort, whilst still feeling close to nature. At night, sit around an open camp fire under some of the starriest skies you’ll see.

GEOGRAPHY & LOGISTICS

Arrive by charter flight into Siruai’s private airstrip, only an hour’s flight from Nairobi, and enjoy a leisurely fifteen minute game drive to camp. Alternatively, it is five hours by road from the capital city of Nairobi.

HIGHLIGHTS

The freedom to explore this wild corner of Kenya on foot and at your own pace, with no other visitors around, is what makes Siruai a true ‘Out of Africa’ experience. There are fabulous walking opportunities from the camp, exploring the boulder strewn ridge lines and river valleys, with the option of hiking to a beautiful bush breakfast overlooking a hippo pool on the river’s edge. Kayaking or tubing down the river is an exhilarating way to explore the scenery and for those who love an adrenaline rush, don’t miss scrambling up the giant boulders and leaping off into the waterfall pool far below! As well as rare species such as the Grevy’s zebra and African wild dog, guests will find substantial populations of lion, leopard, hippo, ostrich, reticulated giraffe and elephant, providing lots of game viewing opportunities.
