SOLIO GOES GOLD
We are extremely pleased and excited to announce that Solio Lodge has received its GOLD eco-rating from the board of Ecotourism Kenya making it one of only 20 properties in Kenya with the top rating!
Solio Lodge is the best place in Africa to see rhinos (the record for one game drive is 181!) with over 250 white and black rhino on the conservancy. We are very pleased to say that the lodge has now attained the top possible eco rating thanks to all the hard work of the staff, management and of course our amazing guests too.
For everyone staying at the lodge, The Safari Collection makes a donation to Solio Conservancy towards rhino conservation. Every visitor can stay at the lodge knowing that they are far more than the normal tourist; they are a vital contributor to the most successful combined rhino and tourism conservation project in Africa.
As well as contributing to rhino conservation Solio Lodge also runs an extensive programme working with the community and in the last two years with the help of some generous donors we have:
- Treated over 4000 patients and performed 400 surgeries during 2 eye clinics
- Empowered over 500 students at local schools through the TEAMtalk programme
- Treated over 1000 patients at a dental clinic
- Refurbished classrooms at Leburra school (thanks to the Dalton family)
- Rebuilt Honi primary school (thanks to Charlie Wickham)
- Donated vital textbooks to school students
- Donated vital equipment to the local hospital
- Trained 2 rangers in specialist anti- poaching
- Visited local schools to hold conservation talks and taken students on game drives
