PACK LIKE A PRO

Nobody enjoys being weighed down by a burdensome bag filled with items they don’t need. Even more so given the current environment and extra travel requirements. Once you’ve got all your health checks, certificates and forms ready to go (visit our Travel Updates Webpage for the latest Kenyan travel requirements), it’s far better to be footloose and fancy free by having light luggage.

Take a step back from the materialistic world and embrace all that a safari has to offer – which includes reconnecting with the simplicity of nature.

LESS IS MORE WHEN IT COMES TO SAFARI PACKING

On small aircraft internal flights, you will only have 15 kgs baggage allowance, so minimalist packing is essential. Plus, you’ll want space for those irresistible souvenirs at the end of your trip.

HERE ARE THE SAFARI COLLECTION’S TOP TIPS FOR PACKING LIKE A PRO:

  • Leave basic toiletries behind; all our lodges provide delightfully scented natural soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion made with organic essential oils.
  • Laundry is included at all destinations, so plan to wash clothes instead of bringing a new outfit for each day (the lions won’t notice).
  • Think ‘soft and light’ layers, in mix and match tones. Leave skimpy tops at home as Kenya is a conservative country.
  • Steer clear of jumbo-sized suitcases, they are tempting to fill. Opt instead for a medium-sized, soft bag which fits more easily into vehicles and small aircrafts. Don’t worry about a lack of wheels, it won’t be you lifting it!
  • Multi-purpose is the name of the game. Choose ‘hardworking’ clothes to bring on safari: a sarong that can double as a scarf, trousers you can wear for chilly morning game drives AND evening dinners.
  • Rolling clothes before packing them is a great space saver.
  • Kenya has banned plastic bags, so please leave them behind.
  • Although we supply hand sanitiser and face masks at our properties, you might like to bring your own. It is currently law in Kenya to wear facemasks at all times in public spaces, including vehicles and aeroplanes.
  • Don’t forget sunglasses, sun cream, a sun hat and swimwear to make the most of our balmy tropical climate.

The Bottom line: Do not pack too much.

As you place each item into your bag, ask yourself: Do I really need this? Or could I, just maybe, live without it for ten days?
