STAY AT: Bukima Tented Camp

GETTING THERE: On arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by your private guide and taken to check in for your scheduled flight to Kigali, Rwanda. On arrival in Rwanda, you will transfer via road to Virunga National Park, Congo. The journey takes approximately 5 hours. 

EXPERIENCE: On arrival you will have time to relax and prepare for the day of trekking ahead whilst enjoying the stunning views from the camp. Bukima tented camp is one of the main starting points for Virunga mountain gorilla treks. The camp was originally built for researchers, but is now used primarily by trekkers. As the name suggests, overnight guests at Bukima sleep in platform tents, but by camping standards they are quite plush. Each tent is equipped with a nicely appointed bed and dresser for clothes. The views from the tent sites and communal areas are spectacular.

DAY 2 and 3

Located within a lush forest with incredible views of the Rift Valley and Nyiragongo and Mikeno volcanoes.

STAY AT: Mikeno Lodge

GETTING THERE: You will transfer via road from Bukima tented Camp to Mikeno Lodge. The journey takes approximately 1 hour. 

EXPERIENCE: Once here you will have some time to relax at the lodge and prepare for the next 2 days of trekking. Mikeno Logde is a luxurious lodge tucked into a forested hillside at Virunga National Park Headquarters. You can do as little or as much as you like here. Ideally the lodge will be your starting point for gorilla, volcano and chimp adventures with your private guide. However, if you or some members of the group wish to purely chill out, Mikeno Lodge is the perfect place to have a relaxing time-out from life in a peaceful location. A stay here is an exceptional experience for all travellers among the wildlife and beauty of Virunga National Park.


Relax and rejuvenate in an airport hotel

STAY AT: Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport

GETTING THERE: Today you take a road transfer from the Congo to Kigali where you will fly back to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. On arrival, you will say goodbye to your private guide and a representative from the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport will transfer you to this hotel located within the airport.

EXPERIENCEEnjoy a relaxed evening here as you get rejuvenated for another exciting part of your Kenyan Safari. The Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport is located at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and is comfortable and convenient. The hotel restaurant has an around the clock menu offering local and global cuisine, a coffee shop that offers the best-handpicked flavours and a unique culinary experience.

DAY 5, 6 and 7

The wildlife is easy to view, with large numbers of all plains game, rhino and lion

STAY AT: Solio Lodge

GETTING THERE: After a breakfast we will take you to Nairobi Wilson Airport for a short flight to Nanyuki. You will be met at Nanyuki and transferred to Solio Lodge (a short drive away) for a late lunch.

EXPERIENCE: Solio Lodge, in the north of Kenya, offers plenty of exciting activities. You’ll find horse riding, trekking and trout fishing in the Aberdare National Park and fantastic views of Mount Kenya from the lodge or a helicopter. Large numbers of black and white rhinoceros are found on the Game Conservancy along with the big cats, other wildlife and indigenous exotic birds.

DAY 8, 9 and 10

A heavenly oasis to relax and enjoy

STAY AT: Sasaab

GETTING THERE: From the Solio airstrip it is a 20min private charter flight to Sasaab. On arrival we will take you to the lodge in time for lunch.

EXPERIENCE: The hilly terrain in Samburu land in the north of Kenya, is different to other parts of the country. Here you’ll find the Samburu Special Five – Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx. During your stay at Sasaab guests are offered a glimpse into Samburu life, learning about their traditions and culture. Here you can explore the wild, embark on a fly camping adventure, take a ride on a camel through the wilderness or relax at the luxurious spa.

DAY 11

Meet the resident Rothschild’s giraffes

STAY AT: Giraffe Manor

GETTING THERE: After breakfast at Sasaab you’ll catch a flight from the Samburu to Nairobi Wilson Airport. We will meet you at Wilson Airport and transfer you to Giraffe Manor in time for a late lunch.

EXPERIENCE: On arrival you will be met by our resident Rothschild’s Giraffe who roam the grounds of the sanctuary surrounding this classic manor house. The giraffes are completely wild, but enjoy being fed by our guests*, making this an experience unlike any other in the world. After lunch you can visit the Giraffe Centre located within the Manor’s grounds or take a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and see orphaned elephants and rhinoceros. The nearby Karen Blixen Museum offers a glimpse into the life of the author of the infamous book “Out of Africa” and en-route you will have a chance to purchase gifts from local designers and artisans.

* The giraffe at Giraffe Manor are wild and therefore we cannot guarantee interaction with them at any given time.

DAY 12

Farewell Kenya

EXPERIENCE: After an enchanting breakfast with the giraffes at Giraffe Manor, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international flight home.

*Depending on the time your international flight departs Nairobi, you may need to book a day room or excursions within Nairobi.
